Can an ear infection result from pet allergies?

I have an ear infection and I am trying to figure out what may have caused it. I recently got an inside cat, but he doesn’t shed very much and he is brushed daily. I have always been allergic to pet dander, but since I brought this cat in my house I have been okay. I first brought him in at the beginning of February, but a week later I got a cold. Now it is April and I have an ear infection. I am wondering if my cat allergies have caused me to get sick these past months or if this is all a big coincidence since I am also allergic to pollen? Any help would be great.

By the way, I am constantly taking over the counter allergy medicine.
