Do pet rats produce more allergies than Hamsters?

Posted by admin
DrPhallayss asked:

I’ve had dozens of Hamsters and I’ve never had a problem with these little grumbling furry creatures, but I’ve a had a couple of pet rats for two weeks and my eyes and nose have not stopped to hurt and run…
My doctor says that obviously its an allergy to their hair, but I’m not sure…
I really like my ratties, but living with this situation is also kind of weird…
I’ve also developed a light allergy towards cats in the past.
Thanks.

      Hi!

It’s more than likely rats urine you’re allergic to - lots of people find that they are not actually allergic to the rats themselves but their urine. :)
      Good luck!
